Take Action Today - Write a Letter to Your Elected Representative
Mountains not Mines
Writing to or calling your elected representatives can help make them aware that you, their constituent, do not support coal mining in the West Country.
It does not have to be a long or complicated letter. There are four steps to contacting your MLA about an issue you care about.
Tell them who you are, and where you live
Tell them why you are writing or calling.
Tell them what your desired outcome is.
Ask for a follow up. This could be a call back, an email response, or a meeting.

Subject: Mountains Not Mines - no new coal mines in the West Country
Hi, my name is _____ and I live in ______.
I am concerned that coal mining is going to damage our landscape, pollute our water, and prevent recreational access in the eastern slopes. Specifically, I do not support the development of any of the coal leases that were issued in 2020 in Clearwater County. I am very concerned about two mine projects Valory Resources’ Blackstone Mine, which will destroy Corkscrew Mountain, and pollute the Clearwater River and the Ram River Coal’s Aries Mine which threatens bull trout and the headwaters of the North Saskatchewan River.
I expect you to ensure that a new coal policy permanently protects the Eastern Slopes and Alberta’s water from new coal mining and cancel the leases granted in 2020 in Clearwater County. I would also like to request a response to this letter.
Sincerely,
